Scott Borthwick nominated for July PCA Player of the Month

You can now vote for your July PCA Players of the Month after players were involved in six competitions across the men’s and women’s game during the last month, with Durham’s Scott Borthwick in contention.

Borthwick is nominated alongside, Rob Yates, Samit Patel, Tom Hartley whilst Emma Lamb, Jemimah Rodrigues, Eve Jones and Danielle Gibson are nominated for the women’s award this month.

June saw separate votes for a men’s and women’s award for the very first time, and this month’s winners will follow in the footsteps of Harry Brook and Bryony Smith in claiming the individual prizes.

As always, the four nominees for each award have been identified by the PCA MVP Rankings, and the winners will be decided via a public vote, with two polls running until midday on Thursday 5 August for the men’s and women’s awards.

A bumper month of men’s domestic cricket saw action from no less than four separate competitions. The tail end of the Vitality Blast group stages took place alongside two rounds of LV= Insurance County Championship, before the much-anticipated Hundred got underway in tandem with the 50-over Royal London Cup during the second half of the month.

One of Rob Yates, Samit Patel, Tom Hartley or Scott Borthwick will join Matt Critchley (April), Simon Harmer (May) and Harry Brook (June) in having picked up a men’s PCA Player of the Month award this season.

Here is a brief rundown of each of the four contenders’ highlights this month:

Scott Borthwick (Durham)

Durham veteran captain Borthwick has shown his enduring class in the 20-over, 50-over and First-Class formats throughout July, earning 114.9 MVP points from his eight appearances during the month.

Borthwick has been boosted by an excellent Royal London Cup performance against Middlesex on 27 July. His 76 with the bat and economical spell of 1-28 made the difference as Durham snuck home by just two runs at Radlett, Borthwick the MVP of the Match with 21.9 points.
