Day 3, Lancashire 189ao & 126ao, Durham 97ao & 146ao
Durham Seconds lost their final Championship match of the season by 72 runs against Lancashire at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club.
It took Durham 26.4 overs to bowl out Lancashire on day 3 as the visitors were dismissed for 126 in 74.4 overs. George Drissell claimed the first wicket of the morning when Watson was trapped lbw playing across the line for 40.
Drissell then struck in his next over knocking over Young’s off stump as Lancashire were soon 8 down. Alfie Taylor-Clarke then picked up back to back wickets first to dismiss Jack Morley for 1 and then Alexander Selby’s was sent cartwheeling first ball, as Lancashire were all out for 126 and Durham set 219 to win.
George Drissell was the pick of the Durham bowlers with 4/28, with Alfie Taylor-Clarke (2-7), Jack Campbell (2-26) and Matt Salisbury (2-33) all in the wickets for Durham.
Having put on 29 for the first wicket, Durham lost both openers in the space of three overs as Ben McKinney was caught in the slips driving at a ball for 11, with Crawshaw being dismissed with a ball which appeared to strike his arm as he was caught by Ben Walkden as Jack Morley dismissed both Durham openers.
Morley then grabbed his third as Jamie Crawley was pinned lbw as he went back into his crease for 6.
The visitors struggled to build partnerships throughout the match and having lost four wickets for 62 runs Durham weren’t able to find the momentum needed and went into tea 135/7 and still needing a further 84 runs to win.
Stuart Poynter top scored for Durham with 46 from 63 balls including 8 fours but once he departed due to a slow catch in the slips to Ben Walkden, Durham wickets fell quickly.
Durham were soon bowled out after tea only batting a further 4.4 overs with Jack Morley claiming two in two balls followed by Alexander Selby having George Drissell caught for 11, with Durham being bowled out for 146 and suffering defeat by 72 runs.
Jack Morley claimed figures of 6/54 with Alexander Selby figures of 3/34.
Day 2, Lancashire 189ao & 78/6, Durham 97
17 wickets fell on day 2 at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club as the ball continued to dominate Durham’s 2XI Championship match against Lancashire.
Resuming on 186/9, it took Durham 15 balls to take the final Lancashire wicket as Alexander Selby was caught behind driving to Jack Campbell as Stuart Poynter took the catch behind. Lancashire being bowled out for 189 in 69.4 overs.
Having blocked out the first over of the Durham innings for a maiden, the visitors lost a wicket second over of the morning session to find themselves 0/1 as Ben McKinney feathered one to George Lavelle. Durham soon found themselves 0/2 as Harry Crawshaw edged to the slips also departing for nought.
Jamie Crawley was the new man in the middle and he was also heading back to the pavilion the following over, as he edged to the slips to give Walker his second wicket of the innings and Durham in a bit of trouble at 0/3.
Sol Bell and Jonathan Bushnell tried to steady the ship and they added 34 for the fourth wicket, but Bushnell fell for 11 to Watson and Durham found themselves 37/4.
Lancashire continued to put pressure on the Durham batters, as the visitors fell to 63/6, with Poynter (15) and Bell (31) falling in the space of five balls and Durham still trailing by 122.
Durham lost their final four wickets for 34 runs and were bowled out for 97 trailing by 92 runs. Sol Bell top scoring with 31.
Two quick wickets from Matt Salisbury did see Durham get back on the board early on, as he bowled Ben Walkden for 9 then had George Lavelle caught behind for 0.
Sol Bell took a quick catch in the slip off George Drisell with JJ Fielding departing for 1, as Lancashire were soon 25/3. Two quick wickets from Campbell saw Durham right back into the game with Lancashire now five down for 45.
Lancashire closed the night on 61/6 as Drisell picked up the last wicket of the day to fall as Cian Dickson picked out Jonathan Bushnell at silly point for 4. The home side lead Durham by 153 with four wickets remaining going into the third day tomorrow.
Day 1, Lancashire 186/9.
Durham Seconds enjoyed a strong day with the ball, at the close of play on day 1 of their final 2XI Championship match of the season against Lancashire at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club, as the hosts finished the day on 186/9 having won the toss.
Play finally got underway at 1:30pm following a morning of rain with 65 overs left in the day. Lancashire skipper George Lavelle won the toss and elected to bat and the home side soon found themselves 2/1, as Jack Campbell dismissed Subhaan Mahmood for 0 caught by Luke Doneathy.
Ben Walkden and George Lavelle added 52 for the second wicket however skipper Lavelle was bowled for 25 by Alfie Taylor-Clarke.
Taylor-Clarke soon struck again, two overs later, when JJ Fielding mistimed a pull shot which went straight up in the air to Stuart Poynter, as he fell for 5.
Arav Shetty lasted just 12 balls, as Salisbury claimed his first wicket when Doneathy took a catch at second slip for 4.
Jack Campbell found the edge of Walkden’s bat for 39 as he dismissed both Lancashire openers with the home side going into tea on 98/5.
Durham were right back into it after lunch when George Drissell struck clean bowling Harry Siggh for nought, reducing Lancashire to 99/6.
Cian Dickinson and Walken added 32 for the seventh wicket, but right-hander Dickinson got his timing wrong on a ball he tried also to pull, as Ollie Gibson had him caught and bowled for 18.
The Durham bowlers continued to break partnerships as Salisbury and Drissell each struck in the space of two balls as Lancashire closed on 186/9.
Salisbury, Campbell, Taylor-Clarke and Drissell all claimed two wickets each with Gibson picking up one.
