Six runners complete the Great North Run for Durham Cricket Foundation

Six runners completed the Great North Run last Sunday, 12 September, for Durham Cricket Foundation, raising over £2000.

Foundation Manager Liam Simpson was joined by Foundation Development Officer Jack Warren, Cricket Development Officer Darren Brown and Foundation supporters Paul Iredale, Jade Simpson and Lynne Paterson.

The runners raised the impressive amount of £2,298 in the 40th Great North Run, with the funds going towards supporting the Foundation’s project at the Great North Children’s Hospital which delivers a sports and educational programme to the patients at the Newcastle Bridges School.

Foundation Development Officer Jack Warren, who has been delivering one-to-one cricket-themed sessions to long-term patients in the 2020/21 academic year, completed the 13.1-mile course himself.

The donations will help ensure that Jack can continue to run fun and active sessions at the Bridges School to twice as many children in the new academic year.

After a successful first year, Jack’s sessions have had a positive impact and have made a real difference to the children who have been involved. As a result, Durham Cricket Foundation and the Great North Children’s Hospital are expanding the project from one day per week last year to two days per week in 2021/2022.

Durham Cricket Foundation would like to thank all runners who tackled the half-marathon under the Foundation banner. Thank you to Jack Warren, Darren Brown, Paul Iredale, Lynne. Paterson, Liam Simpson and Jade Simpson.
