Durham Cricket Foundation is expanding its successful Walking Cricket programme by adding new sessions at Willington.
The sessions will run on Fridays, starting on Friday, 5th November from 2pm until 3pm and will take place at Spectrum Leisure Centre (DL15 0JA).
The sessions are free of charge and are suitable for anyone over 50.
Walking Cricket is part of Durham Cricket Foundation’s 50 Not Out project, which aims to improve older people’s mental and physical wellbeing through two strands of the programme – “Active Minds”, offering arts and crafts activities and “Active Bodies”, focusing on a wide range of cricket-themed sessions.
Walking Cricket is a competitive but gentle paced version of the cricket we see today. Walking cricket is cricket as we know it, however, you have to walk to score your runs.
Walking cricket is played inside with plastic equipment and a softer ball, no running is allowed whether it be batting or bowling, walking only. It is played in pairs and normally one team against another. Everyone bowls, fields and bats. Included are warm up drills and small games before a game of walking cricket.
We already run sessions at Washington – Washington Leisure Centre – and with the addition of the new provision at Willington – Spectrum Leisure Centre – the Foundation is looking to make this form of the game more accessible across the county.
All our sessions are free of charge and you can register via the respective links below.
