Andrew Tye named in 14 for Rapids clash

Durham will be looking to get their T20 Blast campaign back on track when they host Worcestershire Rapids on Wednesday in their first home game of the 2022 campaign.

Having played 3 away games on the bounce over the weekend, Durham will be looking to get their second win of the campaign tonight.

James Franklin has named a 14-player squad for tonight’s game which includes the addition of Andew Tye who has joined Durham as the club’s new overseas player, while Liam Trevaskis will captain the side in replace of Ashton Turner.

Tye, known for his death bowling across the globe joins Durham having played a key part in the Perth Scorchers BBL trophy winning campaign during the winter, claiming 3/15 in the final against Sydney Sixers.

He claimed 25 wickets in the BBL last season, 5 wickets behind Peter Siddle as the competitions leading wicket taker and is the second leading wicket taker in the Big Bash League history with 118 scalps.

Durham Cricket can also provide an update on the shoulder injury which Ashton Turner sustained on Friday night against Northamptonshire Steelbacks. Turner currently faces a spell on the side lines and has begun a process of rehabilitation with the Durham medical staff – which he will regularly be assessed. He will remain at the club and will be available for selection once he has returned to full fitness.

Squad v Worcestershire Rapids (1 June)

David Bedingham, Scott Borthwick, Jonathan Bushnell, Brydon Carse, Graham Clark, Paul Coughlin, George Drissell, Ned Eckersley, Michael Jones, Stanley Mcalindon, Ben Raine, Ollie Robinson +, Liam Trevaskis*, Andrew Tye.

Words from Liam Trevaskis

“To be totally honest, I thought we had a good enough score against Birmingham Bears but then Hose and Benjamin just took it away from us in the middle. They played really well and something to just have to take your hat off to people and say well played.

“Birmingham aren’t alone in that they have the power all the way down the order, so it’s something we are going to have to look at, how we can keep doing our skills and take wickets.

“Ash (Turner) has had a scan on his shoulder and will the specialist in the next few days. We will just have to see how it goes. Hopefully it will be positive news, but I could very possibly be leading the side again on Wednesday. It will be nice to have a home game. After three games in four days, it will be nice to have a couple of days off and then we go again.”

Worcestershire Rapids

PEDIGREE:  The Rapids are known for their shorter format success, with plenty of success at New Road. A pitch that seems to suit their well balanced, all round team. Captain Moeen Ali took them to a sixth-place finish last time round however, he was absent for appearances and other key players struggled for form. Ali could be the difference between Worcestershire reaching finals day and making an early exit.

DANGERMAN: If fit and available, Moeen Ali is sure to be Worcestershire’s key man. Known for his big hitting and tricky spin bowling, he has been vital for the Rapids past success in the tournament and will hope to captain his team to more T20 glory.

RISIGN STAR: Yet to make his debut for Worcestershire in T20 cricket, his success in the other two formats will give him confidence going into the shorter format.  Baker recently signed a contract extension at New Road and earned his Championship call-up after showing great promise during the second half of the 2021 campaign. He picked up 12 wickets in the Championship, bowled with great control for someone so inexperienced, and showed his promise with the bat in making 61 not out versus Middlesex at Lord’s.

LAST VISIT: Durham didn’t host Worcestershire last summer, but at New Road, the Rapids took the honours. D’Oliveria and Libby stole the show with the bat, making 145 between them. Ben Cox played two sensational shots in the last over of the game, including a scoop for 6 off a full paced Matthew Potts bouncer.
