Neil Killeen has named an unchanged 14 player squad for Durham’s final home fixture in the Royal London Cup, when they welcome Sussex Sharks to Seat Unique Riverside at 11am.
Durham still only have the 1 win to their name in this year’s competition but have been on the end of some thrillers against Somerset, Gloucestershire and Notts Outlaws.
With England set to kick off their Test series against South Africa tomorrow Alex Lees is not available for selection while Scotland are playing in their final ODI of the summer tomorrow against America with Michael Jones also still on international duty.
Sussex Shark have had a successful RL50 tournament, to date, and are well placed to progress out of the group having won 3 of their 5 games sitting on 6 points, in third place.
Cheteshwar Pujara has been in fine form in both the County Championship and the Royal London Cup, with 367 runs in List A cricket so far this campaign with 2 centuries to his name. While right-arm seamer Aristides Karvelas is the country’s leading wicket taker with 15 scalps so far this term.
Squad v Sussex Sharks (17 August)
Scott Borthwick, Jonathan Bushnell, Paul Coughlin, Graham Clark, Luke Doneathy, Sean Dickson, George Drissell, Oliver Gibson, Mitchell Killeen, Tom Mackintosh, Nic Maddinson, Stanley McAlindon, Chris Rushworth, Liam Trevaskis
Words from Scott Borthwick
It was a tough one to take when against Notts when you get it as tight as that. But I can’t fault the effort of the lads, they showed a great bit of fight to come back like that and get them eight down and push them until the 48th over.
“It was a tricky pitch, even against the seamers at times. Whoever was bowling, if they bowled in a good area it was hard to score. Once Patterson-White came on, we knew he was going to be a threat and he was, although we probably didn’t play him as well as we would have liked. “It was frustrating that a few of us made starts and didn’t kick on, myself included. I got 30-odd, Maddinson got 30-odd, and a couple of others too. If one of us had been able to go on and gets an 80 and supports Liam Trevaskis when he gets his 50-odd, then we could have put 250-plus on the board and it is a different game. “We’ve got to keep trying to win games of cricket. We’ve got such a young squad at the moment, we’ve got to keep learning, but the senior players in the team have to put their hands up and take some responsibility.”Match Centre
The Club’s match centre will be in operation for the fixture with live scorecards, statistics & video highlights as they happen. You can watch the game live via Durham’s match centre and Durham Cricket YouTube channel.
