Durham Cricket is thrilled to announce that club legend Steve Harmison will join as a coaching mentor for the final two games of the County Championship season.
A one-county player, Harmison made his Durham First-class debut in 1996 playing for the club right up to his retirement in 2012.
Part of Durham’s 2007 and 2008 County Championship winning sides, the 43-year-old took 744 First-class wickets, with a best of 7/12 including Durham’s maiden County Championship hattrick against Worcestershire in 2005.
With 222 Test wickets to his name, Harmison was known for his quick bowling playing a key part in England’s 2005 Ashes series win on home soil, in which he claimed 5/43 on day one of the series at Lord’s.
Durham entertain Sussex on Tuesday before rounding off the season at Trent Bridge on Monday 26 September, with Harmison taking up coaching duties with the club in addition to acting as mentor during that time.
Upon his retirement, Steve has continued to develop his extensive knowledge of the game as a pundit on Sky Sports, Talk Sport and BT Sport.
Harmison said: “It is really nice to be back with Durham for the next couple of week, this club has given me lots as a cricketer so to be able to come and give something back to this great county in a coaching role is something I am delighted to be able to do.”
Marcus North, Director of Cricket, added: “It is pleasing to be able to bring Harmy in for the final two games of the season, adding to our support staff.
“He knows the club inside out and what we are about as a county, we look forward to having him with us over the next couple of weeks and the experience he can bring to the playing squad.”
