Paul Nesbit won the Maureen Jackson Community Person of the Year Award at Durham Cricket’s 2022 Paul Collingwood Medal yesterday, 6th October.
Nesbit was recognised for his service as a volunteer at both club and league level and an extraordinary dedication to cricket in Durham for decades.
The award, created in 2019 in memory of Maureen Jackson, the late wife of former Durham Cricket Board Chairman Bob Jackson, celebrates someone who has gone above and beyond in the community.
As well as playing the game for over 60 years, this year’s recipient has supported recreational cricket in countless ways – at club, league and county level.
At his club Shotley Bridge, Paul has served many roles, including as the club chairman – a role he is retiring from at the end of 2023 after years in post, leaving behind a notable legacy and an incredibly strong and vibrant club.
Nesbit has been involved with many league committees, including the Northumberland and Tyneside Cricket League, and still sits on the committee of the North-East Premier League.
Paul has also served as a Director at Durham Cricket Board – a role he held for over 10 years before retiring last month.
He recently took on a new role as the County Disciplinary Officer and will continue his fantastic work organising the annual Grassroots Cricket Awards for Durham Cricket.
