Durham Cricket celebrated a remarkable season for the girls’ county squads, marked by high proportion of wins and an increased standard across the age groups, at the End of Season County Girls’ Presentation at Seat Unique Riverside.
The event highlighted a season during which the U18 North East Warriors reached national finals, claiming bronze, the Under-13 County side won almost all of their games, and the Under-11 side played their longest season yet.
The evening recognised the three best players in each squad from U11 to U18 Warriors, with Warriors and England Women’s U19 player Lizzie Scott and Senior Warriors Captain Laura Ellison presenting the awards to winners.
Under-13’s Layla Myers claimed Player of the Year for her team, that won 12 out of 14 games in the season. The awards recognised her consistency with the bat, scoring 188 runs, including an unbeaten 59 towards a 32-run win against Northumberland.
Captain Kate Million deservedly picked up Batter of the Year for the U13 Girls, with 203 runs across the season. In her best performance of the season, Million retired at unbeaten 65 against Cumbria, as her team claimed a 145-run win.
Olivia Power took 14 wickets, including 4-9 against Cumbria, to scoop the Bowler of the Year award for the U13 Girls.
The U18 Warriors side celebrated an exceptional season, marked by reaching the Finals of the ECB Royal London U18 Girls’ County Cup and claiming third place nationally. In 16 games, the side gained 13 wins.
Ciara Boaden was remarkable with the bat, scoring 558 runs across the season with her best score an unbeaten 106 against Cumbria – earning her the Batter of the Year for the Warriors.
Leading wicket-taker Jessica Weatherspoon (15 wickets) claimed Bowler of the Year for the joint Durham and Northumberland side.
Harriet Robson was awarded Player of the Year for her consistent and reliable contributions throughout the summer with bat and ball. Harriet scoring 241 runs and took 14 wickets, including a spell of 3-7 against Nottinghamshire.
The youngest girls’ county squad had one of their longest seasons yet, playing 24 games securing 11 wins.
Under-11 Captain Hannah Collingwood was the team’s leading batter and wicket-taker earning her the Player of the Year award. Her season included a batting best of 53 towards Durham’s four-wicket win against Lancashire, with a best bowling spell of 3-1 as Durham bowled Cheshire out to win by 4 wickets.
Ava Rimmington claimed Batter of the Year for her season total of 155 runs, as Layla Gale picked up the Bowler of the Year award with 11 wickets throughout the season and a best performance of 2-3 against Yorkshire.
Amy Hurst was presented with the Batter of the Year award for the U15 Girls, having amassed 274 runs throughout the side’s campaign.
Emma Hathaway was reliable with the ball throughout the season, taking 16 wickets, including an exceptional 5-9 spell against Northumberland, which earned her the Bowler of the Year award.
The U15 Player of the Year was presented to Mae Deaville for her all-round season performance, totalling 65 runs and 12 wickets.
