Ollie Robinson was pleased with “a good day” with the bat from the whole team as he notched his maiden first-class century for Durham against Derbyshire in the LV=Inusrance County Championship at Seat Unique Riverside.
The wicketkeeper-batter, who enjoyed a successful loan spell in the T20 Blast last season before making the permanent move over the winter, was keen to stress how the whole team played a part in his successful innings.
“The belief in the group is that there will always be someone to step up and get us out of a problem, lucky it was my day. I batted quite nicely so I was pleased.
“It was a good day, I hit the middle of the bat from my first ball. It was just one of those days, I’ve got a couple of new bats so I was pretty happy with that.”
The 24-year-old put on a 100 partnership with Graham Clark at a crucial time for Durham as there was the risk of a batting collapse.
However, the two combined to put the pressure back on the visitors and help Durham score over 400 runs.
“It becomes easier when we bat in partnerships, we absorbed the pressure and countered after that. We did that very well and we’re in a really good position in the game, we can play the game on our terms now”, he said.
Robinson also paid tribute to the impact that Head Coach Ryan Campbell has had on the batting group.
“Scoring 400 on day one is a testament to our batting and our style is working for us. We’re finding a nice balance between being fearless and reckless. Long may it continue.”
