Durham boys’ under 16s made it three from three as an unbeaten 107* From George Fishwick guided Durham to a 9 wicket win over Cumbria at Kikrby Stephen Cricket Club.
Durham won the toss and elected to bowl and had the home side in trouble from the off as Brett Hutchinson dismissed both openers cheaply leaving Cumbria 1-2.
Matthew Robinson made things worse for Cumbria as he bowled Lewis Spurr for 6 – with the Cumbrian number three digging in having faced 46 balls.
A 35-run partnership for the fourth wicket helped Cumbria steady the ship as Louis Bigland added 38 supported by 26 from Jack Bloomer, but Luke Symington and Freddie Lowers saw the back of both batters.
The 7th wicket stand for Cumbria worth 69 proved their best with Cade Heavyside scoring an unbeaten 55 from 38 balls with 5 sixes, to help Cumbria close their 50 overs on 161/7.
The Durham bowlers shared the wickets, with Brett Hutchinson and Freddie Lower picking up two apiece.
In reply Durham cruised to victory with an opening stand worth 153, with George Fishwick and Callum Gaffney the men in the middle.
Fishwick led Durham to their third win as he crashed an unbeaten 107 off 92 balls with 17 fours and 3 sixes.
Gaffney fell five short of 50 with 45 off 48 balls, but at that point Durham needed just 3 for the win as Luke Symington came to the middle and scored the three runs needed, finishing on 166/1.
Durham return to ECB cup action on 1st August against Derbyshire at Lintz.
