Bas de Leede claims ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Year for his performances with the Dutch national side
Bas de Leede joined Durham early in 2023 and has made a significant stamp in proving his exciting ability and promise on English soil. The 24 year-old Dutch international made 7 first class appearances with 494 runs to his name as well as 17 wickets for Durham.
He first represented Netherlands in 2018 and has since represented them in multiple world cups, being brandished a hero for his recent performances in the orange shirt. De Leede was involved in the efforts that beat South Africa and Bangladesh in the World Cup as well as overcoming Zimbabwe, West Indies and Scotland in the run up to the tournament. It was in that fixture against Scotland where he picked up a century to nail down the sides World Cup spot.
At the World Cup, de Leede collected 16 wickets, including a four against Pakistan, he also picked up three wickets against England, including that of Harry Brooks’.
With the bat, he also impressed. De Leede hit a half-century against Pakistan, gaining 67 runs, and totalling 139 runs in the tournament.
“I’m accepting the award, but I think most of the Dutch boys would have been in contention for it. So it’s a cool way to finish off a great year for The Netherlands.
“Looking at my performances, it’s probably the best I’ve played for Holland, which I’m very thankful for. I’m happy to have put in some performances to make that happen there.”
Bas De Leede is currently out in Dubai, playing for Desert Vipers in the International League T20 and will be returning back to Durham in time for the 2024 season.
