Women’s and Girls’ pathway makes transition from Cricket Board to Cricket Club

Durham Cricket are thrilled to announce that the Women’s pathway is now part of the High-Performance department moving across from the Cricket Board and grassroots side of the club.

Women’s and Girls cricket has successfully been part of the Durham Cricket Board for a number of years and will now follow the boys’ pathway in being managed by Director of Cricket, Marcus North.

With Women’s and Girl’s cricket from Under 13s up to the senior women being part of Durham Crickets High-Performance department.

The transition is something that has been planned for some time and with the landscape of Women’s and Girl’s Cricket changing from 2025, Durham Cricket now believe this is the ideal time to align the clubs pathways.

The transition over to the High-Performance Department will further enhance the women and girl’s pathway in the region, as we continue to create and nurture a strong presence within ECB’s national competitions.

Rachel Hopkins, Head of Female Talent Pathway, will transfer from the Cricket Board into the High-Performance department, which will provide further opportunity to learn and share skill sets with a highly successful men’s talent pathway coaching team.

Durham’s Director of Cricket Marcus North said: “This transition represents a crucial step in achieving our ambition of Durham Cricket becoming one of the most successful women and girl’s programmes in the country.

“A fantastic amount of work has gone on within our programmes and this transition comes at a very crucial time of the development in the female game.

“Moving our women and girl’s pathway to the High-Performance department will give our talent in Durham a chance to develop as cricketers and people in a competitive environment, while helping raise the profile of the female game in the North East.

“This is the continuation of an exciting journey and we are very much looking forward to the future of women’s and girls’ cricket in Durham and the North East.”
