Peter Siddle signs for County Championship

Durham Cricket are pleased to announce Peter Siddle will join the Club for a spell in the Vitality County Championship.

The signing of Siddle comes on the back of Scott Boland’s recent foot injury sustained against Warwickshire. A recent scan has shown that he will now require significant recovery and rehabilitation meaning his time with Durham has unfortunately came to an end.

The Club have acted quickly and recruited Australian fast bowler Siddle for Durham’s next 6 County Championship games and will be available for selection against Essex later this week.

Siddle, who has claimed 222 wickets for Australia from 67 Tests, has played all formats for the national side making 89 appearances since his debut in 2008.

The 39-year-old was an integral member of the Australian pace attack between 2008 and 2016 and also went on to claim a hat-trick during the 2010-11 Ashes series.

Since his first-class debut in 2005, Siddle has been a prominent member of the Victoria side, which includes a best of 8/54 against South Australia.

He has been a regular on the English County circuit, with spells at Essex, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and most recently Somerset, going on to take 755 first-class wickets throughout his career.

His most recent full spell in England saw him impress at Taunton claiming 27 first-class wickets at an average 23.92 with a best of 6/51 against Surrey. He also impressed with the white ball, taking 17 Vitality Blast wickets at an average of 17.88 with a best of 3/10.

Marcus North, Director of Cricket, said: “It was important we acted quickly to replace Scott Boland and we have done that with the addition of Peter Siddle for the County Championship. It is very disappointing to lose Scott after just one game and we wish him all the best in his recovery.

“We look forward to welcoming Pete to Durham and watching him play a key part in our success on the field in the coming weeks.”
