Vitality Blast - Travel Planning
The following information is designed to give spectators driving to Seat Unique Riverside for one of our Vitality Blast T20 games.
Car
Seat Unique Riverside is located less than one mile from Chester le Street front street, seven miles outside Durham and twelve miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Parking on site
The venue has car parking spaces adjacent to the ground. For each T20 Blast game spectators are encouraged to purchase parking passes in advance. Parking passes are available to purchase at £3 via the Club’s website (https://www.durhamcricket.co.uk/)
Accessible parking passes are available to purchase from the same link (https://www.durhamcricket.co.uk/).
Note parking passes are not sold for specific car parking areas, with car parks filled on a first come, first served basis. Spectators are advised to follow signage and stewards’ instructions on arrival .
If any parking spaces are still available on the day of the event, they will be available to purchase at £5 per car, with payment made directly to the car parking stewards via card only, no cash.
Parking off-site
There are a number of car parks available in Chester le Street. Details of them can be obtained (https://www.durham.gov.uk/article/3485/Chester-le-Street-car-parks)
Note spectators should not attempt to park in any of the residential streets around the ground as restrictions apply.
Rail
Chester-le-Street station is served by three train operating companies. Northern Rail, CrossCountry & First TransPennine all run regular services from local & regional destinations. On busy match days, additional stops are made by trains at Chester-le-Street.
Please note East Coast services from Edinburgh and London are unable to call at Chester-le-Street: the nearest stop for East Coast is Durham.
There are rail services North and South to coincide with the end of each T20 Blast game. More details of train times can be found here (https://www.thetrainline.com)
Bus
There is an extensive local bus network operating to and from Chester-le-Street. Routes north / south from Newcastle to several destinations (e.g. Durham, Bishop Auckland), and east / west (e.g. Sunderland, Consett).
The nearest Chester-le-Street has to a Bus Station is the Market Place where the bus stops have real time information (10 – 15 minute walk to The Riverside). However, the Market Place is not the nearest bus stop to The Riverside. The closest stops to Seat Unique Riverside are two stops further south of the Market Place – at the Black Horse (for buses in both directions, north and south, a 5 – 10 minute walk to Seat Unique Riverside).
Use Go North East’s Journey Planner via their website to plan your bus route to Seat Unique Riverside (https://www.gonortheast.co.uk/services).
