North East Premier League roundup: Ben McKinney scores two half-centuries in two Burnopfield victories

Ben McKinney was in the runs again as he scored two half-centuries in the North East Premier League in two Burnopfield victories with runs als0 coming for Stanley McAlindon and Mitchell Killeen.

In Friday’s 1st Team Banks T20 Cup Quarter finals, Mckinney scored a quickfire 66, to help fire Burnopfield to a nine-wicket victory over South Northumberland, chasing down 164 in under 16 overs.

McKinney struck nine fours and three sixes as his innings was comprised in just 31 deliveries. Daniel Hogg made an unbeaten 13 to secure victory for Burnopfield.

Newcastle recorded a 13-run victory over Burnmoor as George Darwood took figures of 2-31 in four overs as he helped Newcastle successfully defend their total of 157.

Academy batter Robbie Bowman top scored for Tynemouth as they suffered a last over defeat to Hetton Lyons. He made 41 from 36 balls with four fours and two maximums as helped set a target of 148 for Hetton Lyons who won thanks to runs from Jarvis Clay.

In Saturday’s North East Premier League action, McKinney was in the runs again as he scored 57 in Burnopfield’s seven wicket victory over Benwell Hill. Ross Whitfield was also in the runs as they chased down their target of 272 inside 48 overs.

McKinney made 57 in 61 deliveries with seven fours and a six as he shared a 110 run opening stand with Matthew Oswell before falling to Yash Kothari. Whitfield replaced him at the crease and made 54 from 51, also scoring seven fours and a six, before he too fell to Kothari.

Stanley McAlindon scored 84 as he opened the batting for Tynemouth in their convincing 102-run victory over Newcastle. Tynemouth declared on 304/7 after 53 overs before bowling Newcastle out for 202. The 20-year-old’s knock featured 10 boundaries, coming from 118 balls.

Sebastian Hughes-Piñán took 2-42 for Chester le Street in their 69-run victory over Tynedale. Chester le Street made 212 from 51.4 overs before bowling their opponents out for 143 as Hughes-Piñán took a couple of wickets in his 11.5 overs, bowling out top scorer Euan Ayrton Stephenson for 45.

George Drissell and Jack Brassell took a pair of wickets each for Sunderland as they bowled out Castle Eden for 159. Brassell took the best figures of 2-22 in his 5.5 overs while Drissell claimed 2-27 in nine overs.

In response, Durham Academy player George Fishwick, made an unbeaten 53 with five fours and a six before Drissell smashed 21 runs from just six balls with two fours and sixes apiece to help Sunderland record a nine-wicket victory.

Mitchell Killeen scored a half-century for Burnmoor in their victory of seven wickets Ashington. Ashington were bowled out for 202 within 58 overs. Killeen bowled 12 wicketless overs with one maiden for 46 runs.

In Burnmoor’s reply Killeen, batting at three, made 57 runs featuring seven boundaries as Burnmoor reached 206/3 in under 46 overs to record victory.

Oliver Gibson picked up 3/57 as Shotley Bridge cruised to a 7 wicket win over Sacriston at Front Street. The Bridge won the toss and elected to field as Gibson dismissed Sacriston opener Nathan Hall for 8. Sacriston struggled to get going and were bowled out for just 98 in 34.2 overs. In reply, Shotley Bridge needed just 20.3 overs for victory as Paul Greenwell scored an unbeaten 54*.
