Drissell smashes 51 as Durham Second XI record back-to-back wins over Derbyshire

George Drissell smashed 51 before he and Callum Parkinson took two wickets each as Durham Second XI secured consecutive T20 victories over Derbyshire.

After delays of around an hour and a half due to ground conditions in Hartlepool, Drissell won the toss and chose to bat first in a game reduced to 12 overs per side.

Durham lost a couple of early wickets with Ross Whitfield and Paul Coughlin fell cheaply in the opening two overs. Mitchell Killeen soon followed with Durham 25 for three.

Durham lost Jonathan Bushnell on the penultimate ball of the sixth with Durham 39 for four at the halfway stage. This brought Daniel Hogg to the crease to join captain Drissell.

The pair shared a partnership worth 65 in 34 deliveries featuring five fours and three sixes. Drissell reached his half-century in just 24 balls as he launched Hishaam Khan over wide long-on for a huge maximum.

Nick Potts came back to take his second wicket of the day as removed the Durham skipper in the final over; Durham made a further four runs to finish 108/5.

Derbyshire began their response brightly and put on 37 for the opening wicket before Sebastian Hughes-Piñán had Harry Came caught in the deep in the fifth; the first of three wickets to fall without a run being scored.

Drissell then took wickets in consecutive deliveries in the following over. Hughes-Piñán stayed in the action as he took the catch of Harrison Parker for 30 before Drissell trapped Cian Dickinson in front first ball.

After a flurry of boundaries, Whitfield made a direct hit to have Muhammed Naeem run out; Derbyshire 55 for five in the eighth. After being hit for six in the leg side, Callum Parkinson bowled Jack Carney to leave two new batters with a target of 45 from 21.

Parkinson took his second wicket in the penultimate over to finish with figures of 2-20 from three overs, almost matched by Drissell’s 2-21. Derbyshire managed to reach 93/7 from their 12 overs, falling 15 runs short.
