Familiarise yourself with Durham Cricket’s rookies who are likely to feature in the 2024 Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign kicking off at Sedbergh School against Lancashire on 24th July.
Stanley McAlindon
A tall right-arm seamer, Stanley McAlindon is the most experienced Durham rookie having appeared 12 times for the first XI with 14 wickets. McAlindon penned a two-year rookie deal in the winter of 2022.
The Cumbrian broke through in 2022, taking four wickets in two County Championship matches. He then appeared in seven One Day Cup games, starring against Leicestershire with a maiden half-century followed by four wickets.
Having made it through a difficult 2023 season, the 20-year-old made strides through the winter months and took first innings figures of 3-34 against Zimbabwe A in February 2024, unfortunately suffering a hamstring injury after.
While unable to bowl, Stan has improved with the bat making scores of 81 and 84 whilst playing for Tynemouth CC in the North East Premier League. Having returned to bowling, McAlindon has had short spells for Cumbria and Durham Second XI with six wickets in four games.
Haydon Mustard
A right-handed wicketkeeper batter, Haydon Mustard signed a two-year rookie deal at the beginning of the 2024 season.
2024 has seen Haydon hit new heights, appearing for England Under 19’s before making first-class and T20 debuts for Durham.
Mustard made his international debut at the Under 19’s World Cup, scoring 41 and taking two catches in victory over Zimbabwe. The 18-year-old has represented England twice since, featuring in the ODI series against Sri Lanka this summer.
His Durham red ball debut came in Harare against Zimbabwe A, taking three catches in two games. Following this up, Mustard appeared five times in Zimbabwe’s T20 competition scoring an unbeaten 46 from 22 balls in the final.
Mustard has been a regular fixture in Durham’s Second XI too, featuring six times this term with a best off 99 coming against Derbyshire in the 2XI Championship. Mustard plays for Benwell Hill in the North East Premier League.
Daniel Hogg
Another Tall right-arm quick bowler, 19-year-old Daniel Hogg signed his first rookie deal in the winter of 2023 with his contract spanning until the close of 2025.
A promising talent, Hogg developed hugely in 2023 making his England Under 19’s debut. After three wickets in two ODIs against Ireland, he was called up to face Australia in red and white ball cricket. Hogg took one wicket in two ODIs before seeing his involvement ended prematurely with injury.
Hogg was Durham Second XI’s third leading wicket taker in the 2023 Second XI Championship with a tally of 14 in four games. Hogg has featured in two Second XI Championship fixtures so far in 2024, recording four wickets.
Born in Manchester, Hogg joined Burnopfield in 2023 and has recorded five wickets this season, having taken 13 in eight matches last term.
Mitchell Killeen
Right-arm seam bowler Mitchell Killeen signed a one-year extension to his rookie deal in the winter of 2023, running until winter 2024.
The 19-year-old made his Durham bow in the One Day Cup in August 2022, with two wickets coming in three games.
On the back of this, Mitch was first selected for England Under 19’s where he took three wickets in two ODIs as England enjoyed a 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka. Killeen returned to the national setup for their tour of India and took 3-56 in victory over Bangladesh last November.
Killeen appeared just once in the One Day Cup in 2023, struggling with injury. He made a host of Second XI T20 appearances and featured twice in the 2XI Championship with a remarkable 7-20 to secure an opening win against Essex.
The youth international has managed to stay injury free this term and has taken three wickets in Durham’s four 2XI Championship games, impressing in the 2XI T20s returning figures of 2-11 against Leicestershire and scoring 79* against Derbyshire.
Killeen also plies his trade for Burnmoor in the NEPL with nine wickets and two half-centuries to his name this season.
