Megan Turnock and Shahzana Aslam join the Durham Cricket Foundation team

Durham Cricket Foundation are thrilled to welcome Megan Turnock and Shahzana Aslam to the team.

Both join brand new roles within the Foundation. Megan will join as our Head of Fundraising and Shahzana as our Diverse Communities Inclusion Officer.

Shahzana brings in a wealth of experience, joining us from our partners over at Young Asian Voices, where she was the Partnerships & Engagement Coordinator for eight years.

Shahzana says “I am very excited to have joined the team at Durham Cricket Foundation, as the Diverse Communities Inclusion Officer, helping to overcome barriers in Grassroots Cricket for Diverse Communities and spread the message ‘Cricket welcomes everyone.’

“Working with Young Asian Voices as the Partnership & Engagement Coordinator and Durham Community Cricket Coach has helped me develop confidence, learn new skills, and introduce cricket to Diverse communities in Sunderland by creating pathways to engagement in a fun, safe and inclusive environment. “

She continues to say “Some of my proudest moments are becoming the first South Asian female, ECB level 2 qualified coach in Sunderland, inspiring women & girls into cricket, winning the Chance to Shine Girls Competition at Lord’s in 2022 and third place at Edgbaston in 2023 with our YAV Thornhill Girls Club. “

Megan joins us after completing her degree at University of Liverpool in Sports Business and Management. She will look to create a revenue stream for the Foundation by reaching out to the community to forge partnerships and build relationships which benefit both parties.

Megan goes on to say, “I am so excited to be joining the brilliant team at Durham, and I’m looking forward to being able to contribute my knowledge, expertise and skills to support the amazing work that the Foundation does.”

She continues “I look forward to working with this great team to deliver a range of fundraising events and initiatives in the future.”

Graeme Weeks, Foundation CEO comments “This is a very exciting time for the Foundation and being able to reach further out into our local community will only allow us to grow and build for the future, helping us to inspire and support more and more people to benefit from the opportunities and programmes we provide.

He goes on to say “Shahzana and Megan bring the exact skillsets and personality that we look for here at the Foundation, so we are thrilled to be able to welcome them to the team. The work they both do will build a fantastic platform for us to propel ourselves to the next level.”

We at the Foundation are delighted to welcome Megan and Shahzana to the team and can’t wait for what they can bring.
