Durham Boys’ Under 18s 400/6 dec draw Nottinghamshire 534 & 185/5
Callum Gaffney top scores with 83 as Durham Boys’ Under 18s draw with Nottinghamshire in the County Championship after a run-heavy three days at Lady Bay sports ground.
After winning the toss, Sebastian Hughes-Piñán chose to bowl first and was rewarded for the decision when Ishaq Khan struck twice in quick succession inside the opening 15 overs.
Aditya Badge and Travis Holland put on 95 before Khan bowled Holland to claim his third with the hosts on 160. Badge went on to score 134 with 21 boundaries before he became Noah Worthy’s first of four victims, falling stumped.
Josh Beer, Toby Lambert and Byron Hatton-Lowe piled on the runs in Nottinghamshire’s middle order with the trio scoring 249 between them.
The hosts were for 496 for seven when all three were dismissed with a wicket apiece for Callum Gaffney, Will Alexander and Hughes-Piñán. Worthy took the final three wickets as Durham bowled Nottinghamshire out for 534 on the morning of day two.
George Fishwick and Luke Symington both scored half-centuries as the pair shared an opening partnership worth 101 before Beer trapped both in front when attempting to sweep.
Callum Gaffney and Charlie Coulthard recorded the game’s biggest stand as they combined for 157, before Gaffney was trapped in front on 83 with 12 fours to his name. Coulthard followed shortly after for 79 after striking seven fours and a pair of sixes.
Robbie Bowman scored 40 and James Minto an unbeaten 42 to ensure the follow-on was avoided before Durham declared on 400 for six on the morning of day three, 134 behind.
Jackson and Minto both took early wickets, reducing the hosts to 12 for two inside seven overs. Jackson took a further two wickets- both lbw, as the young Ds looked to force a result.
A 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket helped the hosts stabilise their innings before Gaffney had Beer caught in the deep just three overs before the sides shook hands.
