Jonathan Bushnell made 92 for Hartlepool in their defeat to Barnard Castle in the North Yorkshire South Durham League. After choosing to bat first, Bushnell held the Hartlepool innings together; his 92 from 131 featured 12 fours and one six and helped Hartlepool to a total of 189. Finn Usher took a five-for and Karl Carver claimed three for the hosts.
Hartlepool were unable to defend their total despite a pair of wickets for Harry Crawshaw as Carver’s unbeaten 76 alongside Eddie Barnes’ 37 not out saw Barnard Castle win by seven wickets at Vere Road.
Haydon Mustard scored 80 for Benwell Hill against Felling at NBMS Denton Bank with a pair of wickets for Ishaq Khan too. After Felling chose to field first, Ishaq Khan bowled Rory Hanley on 9 for the opening wicket. Mustard came in at 79 for two and shared a 96-run partnership with Adam Heather before he too was bowled by Khan, for 76.
Mustard went on to top score for The Hill, making a run-a-ball 80 with eight fours and a maximum as his side made 255/7 from 45 overs. Felling saw off their target comfortably within 35 overs as Alasdair Appleby scored 131 from just 82 balls with 19 fours and six sixes; despite all four wickets for Daniel Gardiner, Felling were victorious by six wickets.
Jack Brassell took a trio of wickets in Sunderland’s victory at Burnopfield. Sunderland scored 169 thanks to 58 from Christopher Youldon and 28 for George Fishwick as Amaan Ulhaq took four wickets for the hosts.
Namibian international Brassell took the opening three wickets in response, reducing Burnopfield to 20 for three and ended with figures of 3-13 from seven overs. Four wickets for Jack Johnson helped Sunderland secure a 62-run win over Burnopfield.
Will Alexander claimed two wickets for South Northumberland in their nine-wicket win at home to Tynedale. The visitors chose to bat and 58 from Oliver Fletcher alongside Joe Barber’s 35 had Tynedale well set until they began to lose regular wickets. Alexander claimed wickets six and eight, dismissing Ted Fletcher and Aaron Rourke as Tynedale made 213/9.
The hosts raced to their target, scoring 214 for one within 34 overs as Nikhil Gorantla starred with an unbeaten 122. He faced just 80 balls and struck 16 fours as well as four maximums; his partner Simon Birtwhistle scored 80 not out as they took South Northumberland to a dominant victory.
Elsewhere, Mitchell Killeen and Sebastian Hughes-Piñán faced off as Chester-Le-Street took on Burnmoor. Batting first, CLS were bowled out for 133 in 42 overs as Craig Stephenson took five wickets and Andrew smith took three for Burnmoor.
In response, Hughes-Piñán took two wickets for Chester-Le-Street including Killeen’s. Killeen though, had already made 34 and was only outscored by Stuart Poynter’s unbeaten 42 as Burnmoor recorded victory by six wickets.
There were three Durham players in action as Castle Eden took on Tynemouth. Batting first, Castle Eden made 170 led by Nicholas Sampson-Barnes’s 60. Tynemouth reached their target just three down; Robbie Bowman made 20 before being caught and bowled by Charlie Scorer. Scorer took 2-25 but Castle Eden were unable to deny Tynemouth the win as Stanley McAlindon guided the visitors to their target three wickets down.
