45 days after victory over Derbyshire, Durham return to white ball action, taking on Surrey in the club’s first T20 Blast quarter final since 2018, tomorrow at 6pm.
Ryan Campbell has named a 14-man squad to travel to The Oval which includes Colin Ackermann, Brydon Carse and Daniel Hogg.
Ackermann returns to contention following his partner’s successful birth of twins whilst Brydon Carse is in line to make his first white ball appearance of the season.
Daniel Hogg could make his T20 debut as he appears in a Durham T20 squad for the first time. Nathan Sowter also returns to the squad following his victorious campaign with Oval Invincibles.
David Bedingham is currently playing for South Africa A in their ODI series with Sri Lanka A and Ben Dwarshuis has returned to Australia following his stint with Northern Superchargers.
Paul Coughlin misses out on selection as the seamer remains out with an elbow injury suffered during the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
In a bid to reach the club’s first T20 finals day since 2016, Durham face a Surrey side which topped the South group boasting international players all across their eleven.
Words from Ryan Campbell
There is lots of excitement in the group, not often you get to play against one of the best T20 sides in the country on their own terms in a final, so this game is a great opportunity to see where we are. We have always spoke about improving as a side in T20 cricket and we have very much deserved our spot in the Quarter Finals and now it is about us going out there and playing our game our way.
It is a free hit for us this game, there is an expectation that Surrey are the best team, but we have the belief inside our walls and that is very clear to see and we won’t take a backward step and that is what I love about this group.
At the moment there is much excitement here because we are in a quarter final and we haven’t been in one for so long, but I want it to get to the point where we are in quarter finals all the time and that is what I want to strive to achieve, so until that point, tomorrow is a massive game.
We now put the group stage behind us, we have our formula, that we want to stick to, and we now have to put that into play, it doesn’t matter where you have finished in the group stages, in a final anything can happen. All which matter is who plays the best on the given day.
Squad vs Surrey (3 September)

2023 finish: Semi-finals
2023 leading run-scorer: Laurie Evans (563)

Key winter moves: Surrey have pulled off something of a coup by signing the exciting Australian international left-arm quick Spencer Johnson. Johnson grabbed English audiences’ attention when he took an extraordinary 3 for 1 in 20 balls in last summer’s The Hundred, for Oval Invincibles against Manchester Originals.
Wildcard watch: You might describe him more as a forgotten man of English cricket, rather than a wildcard, but Jason Roy will be desperate to remind everyone of his world-class top-order hitting powers in the eight group matches he plays before departing for Major League Cricket in the USA. Expect early fireworks from Roy.
