13-man squad named to face Derbyshire

Usman Arshad could make his first Specsavers County Championship appearance of the season after being named in a 13-man squad to face Derbyshire at Chesterfield.

The all-rounder returns to the First XI squad for the first time this season after working his way back from ankle surgery in pre-season.

He took four wickets across two Second XI T20 matches against Worcestershire last week & scored 119 runs in two Division One matches last season, including a first-class best 84 against Yorkshire.

Arshad faces competition from fellow all-rounders Paul Coughlin & Matty Potts, who both missed last week’s day/night draw against Worcestershire.

Michael Richardson, who was due to replace Keaton Jennings in the final two days of the washed out floodlit fixture, could open the batting in Jennings’ absence through international selection.

There is also space in the squad for George Harding, the left-arm spinner who took four wickets on first-class debut against Glamorgan earlier in the season.

The match is being played at Chesterfield, where Durham’s last appearance was a victory by seven wickets back in 1994.

Derbyshire have included 16-year-old Hamidullah Qadri, who hit headlines last week after taking a five-wicket haul on debut to defeat Glamorgan.

The hosts are also expected to hand a debut to South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir. He took three wickets against Durham last year while playing for Nottinghamshire.

Live coverage of the match is available via the club’s official Twitter account with radio commentary via the BBC Sport website.
