13 named for penultimate T20 at Trent Bridge

Durham head to Trent Bridge tonight for their penultimate Vitality T20 Blast fixture to take on Notts Outlaws, starting at 6:30pm.

A 13 player squad has been named for tonight’s fixture against an Outlaws side which Durham last played on Friday night at Seat Unique Riverside.

There are 2 changes to the squad which was last named to take on the Outlaws with Jonathan Bushnell and George Drissell dropping out of the squad.

Durham are now unable to qualify for the knockout stages and currently have 7 points from 12 games sitting 8th in the North Group table, while the Outlaws are one place above Durham with 11 points from 12. Qualification for the Outlaws is now looking unlikely going into the final weekend of T20 group games.

Squad v Notts Outlaws

Scott Borthwick, Brydon Carse, Graham Clark, Paul Coughlin, Ned Eckersley, Michael Jones, Stanley Mcalindon, Ben Raine, Ollie Robinson +, Nathan Sowter, Liam Trevaskis, Ashton Turner*, Andrew Tye.

Words from Brydon Carse on last T20 fixture

It is always interesting when games get shortened, different dynamics come into the game. It ended up being an entertaining game and we managed to get 11 overs per side. The conditions out there were tricky because it was wet. Unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of the result. As a group we thought that we bowled quite well, we took wickets in the powerplay and never allowed them to get away from us. We thought that we were in the game, it’s very disappointing that we didn’t get over the line. We kept on losing wickets at crucial times and that has been a common theme for us in the Vitality Blast. Our batting has let us down through the middle.”

Notts Outlaws

PEDIGREE: Notts Outlaws are a dominant T20 side and their success in recent years has proven this. Crowned T20 winners in 2020, they came close in 2021 before falling short against Hampshire Hawks in the quarter final. A team packed with all round top quality white ball players, it will be a disappointing campaign for them if they are not to make the quarter finals.

DANGERMAN: Alex Hales is a red-hot limited overs cricketer and on a good day he is a top player to watch. He scored an unbeaten 96 at the Riverside last summer off just 54 balls. He was Notts leading run scorer in the Vitality Blast for the second season running with 482 runs at 43.81.

RISING STAR: Although he hasn’t featured for Notts in the Vitality Blast yet, when he does, he will be one to watch out for. Liam Patterson-White has proven  himself as an all-rounder for Nottinghamshire in red ball cricket, making his breakthrough in the 2019 season. Picking up 20 wickets at 21 with an economy rate of 3.11, he will surely be knocking on the door very soon. His bowling quality has been proved for Notts in the County Championship this summer, where he has been a regular in their team.

LAST VISIT: Nottinghamshire Outlaws held their composure in the final over to edge out a narrow two-run win over Durham in their Vitality Blast clash at Seat Unique Riverside. Heavy rain at Chester-le-Street reduced the contest to 11 overs per side, but the Outlaws still mustered a solid total of 98 for nine courtesy of a fine knock of 34 from Steven Mullaney along with a useful 11-ball 25 from Tom Moores. Ben Raine gave Durham a target to chase with a tidy spell of three for 12 from his three overs. However, the home side failed to time the ball to put the pressure on the Outlaws amid miserly bowling Matthew Carter and Samit Patel. Ned Eckersley gave Durham hope in the final over with successive boundaries, but he and Michael Jones could not complete the job, falling just short of the target.
