2nd XI fall short in Trophy final

Result: Kent 2nd XI (276; Blake 110; Harding 3/34) beat Durham 2nd XI (260; Jones 60; O’Rierdan 4/43) by 16 runs

Durham’s 2nd XI fell just short in the final of the Second XI Trophy at Beckenham, losing by 16 runs to Kent despite 60 from opener Michael Jones.

Kent set a target of 277 as Durham bowled their opponents out in 47.5 overs, George Harding the pick of the bowlers taking 3/39 off his nine overs. Ryan Pringle and Nathan Rimmington took two wickets apiece as Alex Blake blasted 110 off 103 balls.

In reply Michael Jones and Michael Richardson shared a second-wicket partnership of 98 before Jones departed for 60 – stumped off the bowling of the bowling of Marcus O’Riordan.

Michael Richardson fell two overs later one shy of a half century as O’Riordan struck again on his way to match winning figures of 4/43 off his 10 overs.

Despite some lower order hitting from the likes of Stuart Poynter, Nathan Rimmington and Cameron Steel Durham were always behind the run rate – falling 16 short of the required target.
