Ben McKinney, George Drissell and Mitchell Killeen were in North East Premier League action yesterday, we take a look at they got on playing for their club sides this weekend.
Ben McKinney stood out with the bat for Hetton Lyons Cricket Club in their victory over Newcastle Cricket Club. He made a brisk 83 not out, coming from just 56 balls. Hetton Lyons knocked off Newcastle’s total of 123 in just 19.4 overs, largely thanks to the 18-year-old’s knock. McKinney hit six fours and maximums apiece, leading Hetton Lyons to a comfortable victory.
George Drissell impressed with bat in hand for Sunderland as he too made 83. His innings came from 93 balls and featured nine fours and four sixes. He partnered centurion Daniel Shurben to a 151-run stand as Sunderland declared on 254 for five in their draw against Eppleton at Church Road. The 24-year-old also contributed with the ball with figures of one for 41 from 15 overs.
Mitchell Killeen was top scorer for Ashington Cricket Club with 52 in their seven-wicket defeat to South Northumberland. Killeen enjoyed a spot in the top order, batting at number three as he came in at 68 for one. The 18-year-old hit 8 boundaries in his half century and was a part of his side’s largest partnership of 73 as Ashington made 254 for eight from 58 overs. Killeen also took figures of 1-48 from his 10 overs.
