Yorkshire 2nds win in shortened game against Durham 2nds

Day 4 – Yorkshire 2nds claimed victory by 7 wickets on the final day against Durham as both sides agreed to a shortened affair due to inclement weather.

With days 2 and 3 lost due to the weather, the sides agreed for Durham to declare on 145/7 and Yorkshire forfeit their first innings to set up a final day chase for the visitors.

JJ Kelly and Harry Crawshaw walked out again with quick runs on the agenda, but unfortunately Crawshaw fell for a seven ball duck and trialist Kelly was given out LBW for 11.

Durham continued with their attacking mindset, Callum Gaffney and Ross Whitfield looking to move towards a declaration. Dom Leech struck with his second ball though, a good delivery drawing the edge of Whitfield to the slips. Leech also removed Gaffney, Harry Duke taking a good diving catch as the youngster tried to slash through the covers to leave the D’s 55-4.

Luke Symington left a delivery that viciously swung back in from Matt Milnes to bowl him for 7, Liam Trevaskis was caught in the cordon trying to push the scoring on 20 and George Darwood was caught on the boundary off Will Luxton for 4. Darwood’s wicket signalled the declaration, Yorkshire requiring 237 to win.

They got off to a lightning start, racing to 72 without loss after 12 overs. However, Brandon Glover bowled Will Luxton and Yash Vagadia in quick succession to check their progress.

Duke looked to push Yorkshire back ahead of the game with a punchy knock, but Ollie Gibson rearranged his stumps to dismiss him for 28.

However, that was to be the last Durham breakthrough as Noah Kelly and Will Fraine continued the chase to 237 and put together a match winning partnership of 101 with both passing 50 to secure victory for the visitors in a heavily rain affected encounter.

Day 3 – no play possible due to wet weather

Day 2 – no play possible on day 2 due to persistent rain

Day 1 – Josh Kelly top scored with 27 for Durham Second on Day 1 of their 2nd XI Championship match against Yorkshire at Seat Unique Riverside as the visitors claimed seven wickets, in a day interrupted by the weather.

After rain wiped out the morning session play got underway at 2:10, with Durham batting after Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bowl.

They picked up their first wicket quickly, Harry Crawshaw with a fine edge through to Harry Duke off the bowling of Matt Milnes for 5. Ross Whitfield walked out to join JJ Kelly and the pair looked to rebuild.

They looked good together at the crease before Whitfield chipped up a leaning edge that was taken at mid off to end the promising partnership at 45, Joel Gunn with his first. Gunn then removed Kelly with an inswinging yorker to leave Durham 75-3.

Milnes picked up his second wicket after the tea break, Callum Gaffney clean bowled to leave Durham needing a big partnership at 92-4. However, Milnes had other ideas as he bowled Luke Symington and Haydon Mustard for 3 and 0 respectively to push Durham into further issues at 100-6.

Liam Trevaskis and George Darwood temporarily stemmed the flow of wickets, but the former fell victim to Jack Schutt, Will Fraine taking the catch to bring Yorkshire their 7th of the day.

Stanley McAlindon walked out to join Darwood at the crease and the pair saw Durham through to the close at 145/7 on a difficult day for batting.
