Ben Mckinney makes 38 in T20 defeat for Durham 2nd XI against strong Lancashire

Durham 2nd XI suffered defeat to strong Lancashire in a T20 double header at Chester le Street Cricket Club despite 38 from Ben McKinney.

In the opening clash at Ropery Lane only eight overs were managed before rain brought the match to an early finish.

The Red Rose inserted Durham, who reached 66 for two with Mitchell Stanley and Luke Wood taking a wicket each for the visitors. Ross Whitfield (21*) and Haydon Mustard (19*) shared 39 for the third wicket before the end of play.

Lancashire made 148/7 in the second fixture as Steven Croft (33), Wood (48) and Charlie Barnard (30*) helped pile on the runs.

Ollie Gibson took three wickets for Will Gidman’s side; Mitch Killeen, George Drissell, Charlie Scorer and Callum Gaffney all took one wicket each.

In response, captain McKinney scored a quick 38 from 23 balls to help Durham on their way but struggled for support with Callum Gaffney’s 27 one of only three other scores in double figures.

Stanley, Croft and James Dunn evenly shared six wickets with Haider Hussain and Harry Birkman taking one each to leave Durham 17 runs short on 131/8.
