Nathan Jameson set to represent Durham for England’s VI Team against Australia

England Men’s Visually Impaired (VI) team have announced their 15-player squad for the Visually Impaired Ashes.

Nathan Jameson of Durham’s VI team has made the squad and will be heading down under to take on Australia this November.

England Men’s VI Head Coach, Tom Lister, said: “As we prepare for the upcoming Men’s Visually Impaired Ashes Series, our team is focused and determined to showcase the strength and resilience that defines us as a squad.

“We’ve had some incredibly strong performances over the last decade against Australia, regaining the Ashes in 2012 and then retaining them again in 2016 means we’re coming in from a strong position.

“It’s always a good challenge when facing the Aussies so we’re looking forward to a competitive and inspiring series, demonstrating the incredible talent within visually impaired sport.”

Nathan himself comments “It’s always special to represent my country but to be able to go out to Australia and fight to bring the Ashes home makes it extra special. It has been a long journey and a lot of travelling up and down the country, weekends away from my family but it’s all been worth it and hopefully made them all proud of my achievement.

He continues “Also a huge thank you to Durham Visually Impaired Cricket Club for all the opportunities and support they’ve given me along my journey so far and a special mention to Durham and my coach Chris Ashburn for giving up his time to do 1-2-1 sessions with me to help me achieve this dream of mine.”

Chris Ashburn, Head Coach at Durham Cricket’s Visually Impaired Team says “Nathan has played for Durham Cricket’s Visually Impaired Team for 8 years now and has given so much to the whole squad with his cricketing knowledge and experience. His hard work and dedication to the Visually Impaired game are second to none 100% deserved his place in the England squad. All the squad wish Nathan all the best out in Australia and know he will do us proud. Good luck and go well”.

We at Durham Cricket Foundation wish Nathan and the rest of the team the best for their trip and bring the Ashes back home!
