Durham captain Cameron Bancroft has been called up to the Australia squad for the forthcoming Ashes series.
The 26-year-old has led the county this summer and earned an International re-call by averaging 45.4 in the Specsavers County Championship.
Bancroft was called up to an intra-squad friendly the past week and put himself in the selectors mind by producing a match-winning 93* at the AGEAS bowl in Southampton.
The opening batsman will stay with the Australian squad as they prepare for the First Test against England at Edgbaston on August 1st.
Marcus North, Director of Cricket, said: “We are delighted that Cameron’s form has earned him an international call-up.
“It’s a testament to the hard work and leadership he has provided the Durham side this summer.
“We’d like to wish him all the best as he joins up with the Australia squad.”
Durham are likely to announce Bancroft’s replacement imminently.
