Benkenstein, who scored over 1300 Championship runs, was also presented with a special recognition memento after becoming Durham CCC’s leading first class run scorer, surpassing 7854 first class runs in his six seasons with the club.
Ben Stokes claimed the EBAC Young Player of the Year Award for the third successive year, having started the season superbly with the bat and then overcoming injury to secure his international call up in September.
Graham Onions, fresh from taking fifty championship wickets, was awarded the Benfield Motor Group Bowler of the Year accolade and was also named Sunderland University Community Player of the Year earlier in the evening.
Will Smith’s exceptional fielding was rewarded with the Muckle LLP Fielder of the Year Award while Michael Richardson walked away with the Yuill Homes 2XI Player of the Year.
