Benkenstein to Make Early Return

In some good news for Durham, One Day Captain Dale Benkenstein will be back playing a lot sooner than expected after last month being ruled out for a large portion of the season.

Benkenstein sustained a shoulder injury in the win over Surrey in early May when he dived in the field. It was initially thought that the injury sustained would be too severe to treat conservatively with the batsmen scheduled to undergo surgery last week.

However the operation that was scheduled was cancelled.

Durham CCC Physiotherapist Nigel Kent has advised that the time off Benkenstein has had over the past month has settled down the acute injury and is hoping Benkenstein will be fit to play out the rest of the season.

“Dale still needs an operation at some stage but it is hoped we can delay it until after the season,” Kent said.

“He will continue to do rehab and modify his diving technique throughout the rest of the season.”

Benkenstein will return to the pitch today with the Durham Second XI side who are playing at Brandon CC against the MCC YCC in a bid to return to the Firsts team in coming weeks.
