BJ Watling in contention to make debut in Northamptonshire promotion clash

Durham Cricket continue their promotion push when they travel to the East Midlands on Monday to face Northamptonshire at the County Ground.

Durham are now well and truly in the hunt for promotion back to Division 1 following last week’s victory over Middlesex at Lord’s, winning by 44 runs inside three days, to go unbeaten in eight.

New Zealand international BJ Watling could make his debut for Durham having joined up with the squad at Lord’s and replaces Peter Handscomb who returns back to Australia ahead of their domestic season.

In addition to BJ Watling Durham welcome back Jack Burnham who has recovered from a niggle that kept him out of the Middlesex trip.

Currently fourth in the table, Durham sit nine points outside the promotion places 14 points behind Northants who moved into second place following a seven-wicket victory over Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground last week.

Brydon Carse will be excited as ever to get back out onto the pitch having struck with career best figures of 6/26 from 9.4 overs against Middlesex, while Chris Rushworth leads all bowlers in Division Two with 62 wickets, having added five to his tally last week.
