Durham take on Notts Outlaws tonight in their final home fixture in this year’s Vitality Blast at Seat Unique Riverside and will be hoping to end their home campaign in winning ways.
A rain affected match at Blackpool, last night, saw Durham take 1 point against Lancashire Lightning and remain in 8th position in the North Group with 3 games to go.
Notts Outlaws have had a mixed campaign and with 4 wins from 11 games also sit near the bottom of the North Group table – the Outlaws currently have 9 points with qualification now completely out of the picture.
James Franklin has made one change to the squad from last night’s T20 at Blackpool with Brydon Carse returning to the squad having finished representing England in their ODI series against the Netherlands in Amsterdam, David Bedingham remains side-lined with a. shoulder injury sustained against Worcestershire in the County Championship.
Squad v Notts Outlaws
Scott Borthwick, Jonathan Bushnell, Brydon Carse, Graham Clark, Paul Coughlin, George Drissell, Ned Eckersley, Michael Jones, Stanley Mcalindon, Ben Raine, Ollie Robinson +, Nathan Sowter, Liam Trevaskis, Ashton Turner*, Andrew Tye.
Words from James Franklin
It’s disappointing to get rained off [against Lancashire] because it was shaping up to be a good game. Lancashire probably felt that they would have been in the game if they’d scored another 30 runs and 160-165 would have been an interesting game, given the dominance of spin we’d already seen, and the number of spinner Lancashire had in their eleven.
There was some average stuff in the Powerplay and some brilliant stuff in the Powerplay. Our spinners bowled pretty well. I thought Liam Trevaskis and Nathan Sowter were outstanding and Scott Borthwick as well.
Notts Outlaws
PEDIGREE: Notts Outlaws are a dominant T20 side and their success in recent years has proven this. Crowned T20 winners in 2020, they came close in 2021 before falling short against Hampshire Hawks in the quarter final. A team packed with all round top quality white ball players, they will be looking for more success this summer, if they can at first get out of the North Group.
DANGERMAN: Alex Hales is a red-hot limited overs cricketer and on a good day he is a top player to watch. He scored an unbeaten 96 at the Riverside last summer off just 54 balls. He was Notts leading run scorer in the Vitality Blast for the second season running with 482 runs at 43.81.
RISING STAR: Although he hasn’t featured for Notts in the Vitality Blast yet, when he does, he will be one to watch out for. Liam Patterson-White has proven himself as an all-rounder for Nottinghamshire in red ball cricket, making his breakthrough in the 2019 season. Picking up 20 wickets at 21 with an economy rate of 3.11, he will surely be knocking on the door very soon. His bowling quality has been proved for Notts in the County Championship this summer, where he has been a regular in their team.
LAST VISIT: An unbeaten knock of 96 from Alex Hales guided Notts Outlaws to victory defeating Durham by 13 runs. The former England opener notched 10 fours and four sixes in his 54-ball innings, falling just short of a century in the final over. Ben Duckett supported Hales scoring 52 as the Outlaws posted a huge total of 195 for five from their 20 overs Durham made a rapid start in their reply, but once the opening stand between David Bedingham and Graham Clark was broken their chase unravelled. Although Bedingham made 65, the home side fell short and slumped to their first defeat of the season.
