Durham draw with Yorkshire in the Under 18s County Championship with Callum Gaffney in the runs and Sebastian Hughes-Piñán in the wickets.

Yorkshire won the toss in Hartlepool and put Durham into the field, scoring 498 in the first innings. Tom Fraine scored a ton for the visitors backed up by half-centuries from Joe Thompson and Joshua Hen-Boisen and an unbeaten 79 from Charlie Taylor.

Sebastian Hughes-Piñán took four first innings wickets, Kenzie Peakman and Jackson grabbed a pair each with Callum Gaffney and Max Robinson claiming one apiece.

In response, Durham made 349 before declaring with one over left on the second day with two wickets remaining. Gaffney made 60 from 63 comprised of 12 boundaries before Jackson procured Durham’s top score of 76, striking 14 fours in the process.

Peakman ensured the Ds avoided the follow-on as he scored a quickfire 66 from 64 deliveries. Jawad Akhtar and Taylor finished with two wickets each for Yorkshire.

Yorkshire saw out the final over on day two but weather conditions prevented any play on the morning of day three in Hartlepool.

Robinson provided Durham with two strikes in the opening over as Yorkshire looked to get off to a fast start to set Durham a final day target.

The visitors then shared a 115-run partnership for the third wicket before Hughes Piñán took two wickets in an over, leaving Yorkshire 117 for four in the 17th. Hughes-Piñán took his seventh of the match before Yorkshire declared 133/5 after 20 overs.

This left Durham with a target of 283 with 45 overs remaining. Yorkshire took two early wickets through Tom Bradley and Hen-Boisen.

John Windows’ side scored 95 for the third wicket with Ethan Connolly making 31 alongside Gaffney. Gaffney struck a rapid innings of 81 from only 75 balls, featuring 12 fours and a six.

Yorkshire took two quick wickets as they pushed for victory, Jackson falling cheaply first before Gaffney was caught. Max Martin and Hughes-Piñán steadied the ship, putting on a stand of 72, finishing 214 for six to secure a draw for Durham in Hartlepool.
