Boys’ under 16’s defeat2 Lincolnshire by 223 runs to make it five wins from seven and remain undefeated in the ECB County Cup.
Gaffney won the toss for Durham at Green Lane and elected to bat. The D’s seized on this as George Fishwick and skipper Gaffney scored 84 each as Durham raced to 142 without loss from 20 overs.
Fishwick fell in the 21st after striking his fifth maximum, with Durham on 148. Gaffney, partnered by Luke Symington put on another 62 by the start of the 28th. Gaffney fell next ball, with an innings comprised of seven fours and four sixes.
Symington made it to his half century after just 34 balls, having dispatched four boundaries, maintaining Durham’s control before falling 2 overs later for 57, Durham on 252 in the 33rd over.
Rohan Vagadia fell cheaply in the 37th, three overs before Robbie Bowman became Durham’s fourth half centurion of the innings, striking six over long-on. Bowman went on to score 71 featuring six fours and five maximums.
He was the fifth batter to depart, falling in the 44th over with the hosts on 327. Durham made a further 42 runs in the remaining overs, finishing 369/9. Samuel Hawke, Ben Jones and Matthew Brown took two wickets apiece for the visitors.
Durham began positively with the ball, reducing Lincolnshire to 11 for two inside six overs with Henry Sherwood and Matthew Robinson claiming a wicket each.
Lincolnshire’s third wicket partnership was worth 69 before Durham took wickets in back-to-back overs again, Vagadia and William Hampson both striking to leave the hosts 85 for four.
Durham claimed their next wicket in the 29th, Hampson running out Max Cartledge with the visitors on 113. In the following over Gaffney picked up two wickets to close in on a Durham victory, having Archie Rossington lbw before Hawke was out stumped after two balls.
Hampson also went on to claim two wickets in one over before Gaffney took the final wicket to secure a comprehensive Durham victory, bowling Lincolnshire out for 146. Gaffney finished with figures of 3-21, backed up by Hampson’s economical 2-8 from six overs.
