Championship returns with Derbyshire in town

Durham prepare to welcome Derbyshire to Emirates Riverside tomorrow (11am start) for the start of a four-game run to end the 2017 season.

The hosts have 96 points left to play for as they aim to push towards a mid-table finish after beginning the season on minus 48 points.

After a slow start to the red ball season, Jon Lewis’s side have been increasingly impressive & are on a five-match unbeaten run in the Specsavers County Championship.

It has involved two wins & three draws, the last of which ended in a frustrating washout after two days of domination against Leicestershire.

The last victory came in the return fixture against Derbyshire at Chesterfield at the start of July, when Jack Burnham’s unbeaten 93 led Durham to a target of 282 with six wickets in hand on the final day.

Cameron Steel, who became Durham’s youngest double centurion in the two days that were possible against Leicestershire, is again included in the squad but could be forced out of an opening berth due to the return of Keaton Jennings.

Jennings is set for his first first-class appearance for Durham since June’s pink ball fixture against Worcestershire following his involvement in England’s Test series win over South Africa.

Michael Richardson will again undertake wicketkeeping duties after doing so at Grace Road while New Zealand international Tom Latham is again involved following his first-class debut century in the same fixture.

Head coach Lewis has Paul Coughlin, James Weighell, Chris Rushworth, Graham Onions & England under-19 international Matthew Potts as his seam bowling options.

A reminder to Members that a Members’ Forum will take place after Day Three of this fixture in the Members’ Lounge following the close of play.
