Durham County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that 26 year-old Durham seam bowler Chris Rushworth has signed a contract extension with the Club until the end of the 2014 season.
The Sunderland born seam bowler came through the Durham CCC Academy, though it was 2010 when Chris signed his first full professional contract with the Club. He soon made his first class debut against Yorkshire in the LV=County Championship at Headingly.
Chris quickly became a vital part of the Durham limited overs side, though it was the 2012 summer that Chris really came through and cemented his place in the Durham bowling line up.
Chris’ best season saw him take 38 wickets, at an average of only 16.39. this was the third best bowling average in the country behind Abdur Rehman of Somerset and Durham’s 2012 Player of the Year Graham Onions.
Chris had this to say upon the signing of his new contract:
“Im delighted to sign a new contract extension with Durham CCC. 2012 was a tough season for the club but on a personal level I was delighted to take 38 Championship wickets, and felt for the first time Id really established myself in the first team.”
“Im hoping to push on to the next level in 2013, a huge year for the Club, and hopefully we can perform to the levels we know we can and bring some silverware back to Emirates Durham”
