Claydon will join Canterbury for the majority of the one day competition, which the side reached the final of last year, with Claydon taking 12 wickets in just five games.
Claydon returns to Canterbury after a very successful Friends Life t20 campaign for Durham Dynamos in which he was the second highest wicket taker for the county. His one day figures were even better, capturing 21 wickets to be the second highest wicket taker in the country in the Clydesdale Bank 40 domestic competition.
He joins Brendon Diamanti in the playing squad as the second overseas player for the HRV Cup campaign as the side look to improve on last year’s placing.
On signing with the Wizards Mitchell Claydon said, “I’m really pleased to be joining up with the Wizards again. It was a great experience for me last year to play some good quality cricket at a good standard. To reach the final of the Ford Trophy was an amazing experience and really gave me a hunger to play in more big games.
“Playing overseas during the winter definitely helped my performance back at Durham this season and I’m looking forward to using this second stint with the Wizards as another opportunity to progress my game.”
Durham CCC Chief Executive, David Harker, added, “Mitchell has worked incredibly hard this season, featuring in all limited overs cricket as well securing his debut fiver-fer in a first class fixture. He has been a reliable asset to the team and it’s great to see him develop into a senior member of our playing staff.”
Bob Carter, Wizards coach, commented that ‘being able to get Mitchell back with us this season increases the strike power in our bowling attack. Mitchell was a terrific member of our side last season who performed on the park and contributed significantly off the park to our squad. He provides options with the new ball and is a very effective bowler at the end of an innings.”
