David Bedingham has been named in the South Africa A squad for their series against West Indies A later this month.
Bedingham had a fantastic domestic campaign with Durham in 2023, finishing with 1,019 runs in Division Two at an average of 56. He scored five centuries in the campaign, with a high score of 156.
He also led the team in total runs in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, scoring 413 runs and averaging 59, with the standout innings coming against Sussex in August where he broke the club record for fastest century in a One Day fixture.
South Africa kick off their three-match series a Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Tuesday 21 November, with the second match of the series a week later at Buffalo Park in East London, before concluding on Tuesday 5 December at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
Proteas red-ball coach Shukri Conrad will oversee the tour. He said: “We’ve selected a blend of experienced campaigners and promising talents for the upcoming South Africa A tour against West Indies A.
“This tour holds immense significance as it will afford players the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities as we prepare for the international season ahead and build depth within our red-ball pipeline.
“The squad was selected with the two-match Test series against New Zealand in mind and features players who boast international experience and some that have garnered excellent performances domestically over the last couple of seasons.
“Neil Brand will captain the side as he possesses that toughness and resilience that we are always after. He has a lot to offer apart from being an opening batter and we’re excited to show what he’s about at this level.”
Elsewhere in the squad there is a call-up for Keegan Petersen, who represented Durham in the 2022 season and scored two fifties in his stint in the north east.
