David Bedingham rounded off a remarkable season with three awards as Colin Ackermann claimed the Paul Collingwood medal at the annual Player of the Year dinner at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham, hosted by Justin Lockwood.
Bedingham ended the season last week as the highest run scorer in division one of the County Championship, accumulating 1331 runs at an astonishing average of 78.29 with six centuries, setting two club records in the process.
The South African affirmed himself as Players Player of The Year, Members Player of The Year and Vitality County Championship Player of The Year with an outstanding knock of 279 against Lancashire, surpassing Martin Love as Durham’s largest individual top scorer whilst setting the club’s highest partnership at 425 alongside Colin Ackermann.
In a whirlwind year where he also scored his maiden Test century, Bedingham also helped spark life into Durham’s Vitality Blast campaign notching two half-centuries in six appearances at a strike rate above 160, including his T20 best of 78.
Colin Ackermann took home the Paul Collingwood Medal with vital contributions across all three formats in his debut Durham campaign. Ackermann made 743 County Championship runs, with two centuries and fifties apiece- including 186 against Lancashire, whilst scoring two half-centuries in nine T20 appearances.
The Dutch international also scooped the Metro Bank Cup Player of The Year award for an excellent campaign, where one century and two fifties made him Durham’s top scorer with 316 runs, alongside taking eight wickets with the ball.
Nathan Sowter was named Vitality Blast Player of The Year for the second year running, as the leg spinner helped Durham to a first T20 quarter final appearance since 2018. His 19 wickets in 14 games came at an impressive average of 16.73 and he bowled at a miserly economy rate of 6.48.
Trudy Johnson became the second winner of the Danielle Hazell Medal. Having been part of the Northern Diamonds Academy and progressed through the Durham pathway system, Johnson has shone for North East Warriors with bat and ball throughout 2024. Johnson was the leading run scorer across North East Warriors Under 18s and Senior Women with 372 runs with a top score of 59 against Scotland, while her 17 wickets saw her finish as second leading wicket taker across North East Warriors Under 18s and Senior Women with a best of 4/28 against Yorkshire at Darlington.
Daniel Hogg earned the Rising Star of The Year after bursting onto the scene in the County Championship, taking 7/66 on first-class debut against Nottinghamshire. The 19-year-old ran through the Nottinghamshire lineup to lead Durham to victory by an innings, finishing the campaign with 12 wickets in four first-class appearances.
Mitchell Killeen was voted Second XI Player of The Year, featuring regularly in 2XI Championship and T20 matches. The 20-year-old took 18 wickets for the seconds across the season whilst contributing over 400 runs with a maiden Durham century along with two fifties.
The Durham Cricket Club Person of The Year award went to Rachel Hopkins and Paul Lee collected the Maureen Jackson Community Person of The Year award.
