Ds abroad: A roundup of a busy 2025 around the world

With the 2025 domestic cricket season just six weeks away, many members of the Durham squad have been keeping themselves busy abroad over the winter.

We take a look at members of the squad who are abroad during the early part of 2025.

Mark Wood featured in six matches during England’s tour of India, appearing in four IT20s and two ODIs, claiming six wickets before he took one wicket in England’s Champions Trophy opening defeat to Australia.

Brydon Carse has meanwhile been ruled out due to a foot injury.

Matthew Potts picked up an SA20 winners medal with MI Cape Town, following his call up to replace Sri Lanka seamer Nuwan Thushara. Potts turned out twice for the franchise side as they became the second side to win the competition.

David Bedingham took a runners-up medal home from the SA20, as Sunrisers Eastern Cape reached the final. Bedingham was the orange army’s second top scorer, accumulating 241 runs throughout the competition with two scores of over 40.

Since his stint in the SA20, Bedingham has returned to Western Province where he scored his 10th List A half-century with 69 off 64 in defeat against Titans.

Hollie Armitage was top run scorer for Central Hinds, scoring 247 runs at an average of almost 50. Hollie made two half-centuries in seven matches, including an unbeaten 72 which was instrumental in their only victory over Canterbury.

After her stint in New Zealand, the Durham Women’s captain returned to South Australia where she struck one fifty and her sixth List A century.

Graham Clark enjoyed a successful campaign in the Bangladesh Premier League, finishing as top run scorer for runners-up Chittagong Kings with 431 runs in the competition, the third highest in the BPL.

The Cumbrian smashed his way to his second T20 century in just 48 balls in victory over Khulna Tigers and made one half-century in 14 games in addition to a quickfire 44 in the final, averaging over 30 throughout the competition.

Ben McKinney continued to progress during the winter months, impressing for England Lions in their tour of Australia. The Durham Academy graduate scored 94 against a Cricket Australia XI before following that up with scores of 32 and 47 in the following tour match.

McKinney then made a commanding 110 from 110 balls for his second first-class century, against Australia A in the only unofficial Test before being dismissed by Australia international Aaron Hardie.

Nathan Sowter signed up for a second campaign with Desert Vipers, playing six matches in the competition as his side reached the final. The leg spinner took six wickets with a best of 3/44 coming against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders including the scalp of Andre Russell.

Lauren Filer made five appearances in England Women’s multi-format Ashes series against Australia, taking four wickets in three Women’s ODIs and striking twice in the only Test before joining up with the Durham squad in February.
