Cameron Bancroft top scored with 35* for the Perth Scorchers in their recent BBL fixture against Sydney Thunder, but unfortunately were knocked out of the competition after suffering a seven-wicket loss on Duckworth Lewis.
The Scorchers went into the game knowing a win would see them progress into the knockout stages of the competition.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, the Scorchers put on 30 for the first wicket as Josh Inglis was bowled for 18. Liam Livingstone (20) and Mitchell Marsh (11) then spent some time in the middle before both being dismissed. Cameron Bancroft and Tim David tried their hardest to put a total on the board with a partnership of 35 from 22 balls, but the heavens opened, taking the players off the field with 99 on the board.
Chasing 97 to win on DLS, the Thunder put on 66 for the first wicket as Usman Khawaja was ran out for a run-a-ball 22. Alex Hales top scored with a quick fire 47 from 27 balls as he helped Sydney secure victory with two balls to spare and progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
Upper Hut United were blown away in their recent game against Petone-Eastbourne Cricket Club thanks to an unbelievable 145 from Nottinghamshire cricketer Liam Patterson-White. Upper Hut United won the toss and elected to bat in their Rothbury Capital City fixture, posting 236 all out from their 50 overs. Matt Taylor top scored with 53 backed by 50 from Navroz Singh. Liam Trevaskis scored with 12 opening the batting with two fours.
Craig James starred with the ball with impressive figures of 6/40 from nine overs, dismissing the top order Upper Hut United batsman.
In reply, the Petone-Eastbourne Cricket Club batters were in complete control throughout, Patterson-White leading the way with 145 while Wade McKenzie closed unbeaten on 83. Trevaskis rounded off with figures of 0/43 from 10 overs.
An unbeaten 84 from Jonathan Lowe helped Auckland University Cricket Club secure a 74-run victory over Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club. Lowe top scored in Auckland’s total of 248 all out with Ash Vodnala (52), Vijay Anad (43) and Graham Clark (24) all contributing with the bat.
Howick Pakuranga struggled from the off, finding themselves 17/3 as their top three batters didn’t reach double figures. Brian Barnard (56) and David Winn (38) came together for a 65-run partnership. Once both fell, wickets continued to fall – with a short cameo of 22 from with two sixes from Taine Jolley. Howick Pakuranga were eventually bowled out for 174 in 42.5 overs.
Johnsonville Cricket Club also enjoyed a big win over the weekend against Karori Cricket Club at Alex Moore Park. A first wicket partnership of 114, got Johnsonville off to a perfect start, as Rakitha Weerasundara was caught for 61. Scott Mudgway (76) and Gareth Severin (66) also led the way at the top of the order, as Johnsonville were in fine form. Burnham unfortunately fell for 0, as they lost five wickets for 59 runs – being bowled out on the last ball of the innings.
Karori struggled from the off as Ricky Johnson had the top three batters heading back to the pavilion. Hamish Marshall scored a well-made 52 but a disappointing batting performance saw Karori bowled out for 114 in 27.5 overs. Ricky Joseph (3/15) and Dominic McAlister (3/20) struck for Johnsonville.
