Ds Abroad: players head overseas for the winter

As the winter months arrive, several of the Durham squad will head overseas to continue playing cricket ahead of the 2023 season.

The opportunity to head overseas enables members of the Durham squad to spend a full winter playing cricket in different conditions in addition to gaining valuable experience.

Liam Trevaskis will head to Zimbabwe having signed for Southern Rocks who are a part of Zimbabwe’s domestic structure. Trevaskis will join up with his new side during the first week of November and is expected to make his Logan Cup debut on 22 November as the Rocks take on the Mashonaland Eagles at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare. Southern Rocks are 1 of 5 first-class franchise sides in Zimbabwe with 4-day fixtures scheduled from November until April.

Jonathan Bushnell and Harry Crawshaw will spend their winter in Australia having signed with Scarborough Cricket Club in Western Australia. The Durham duo arrived in Australia last week and will both feature for the Western Australian Cricket Association side.

Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse will be part of England Lions training camp in the United Arab Emirates from November 6-27. Potts will be part of a 15-player England Lions training squad who will take on England Men in Abu Dhabi on November 18 from November 23-25 – as England Men prepare for their Test series against Pakistan.

Brydon Carse will be part of a pace bowling group who will continue their rehabilitation from injury in Abu Dhabi with the England Lions.

Carse will also spend January with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the first edition of the South African T20 league. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will be based in St George’s Park Cricket Ground, Gqeberha. The fixtures for this tournament are yet to be announced.

All at Durham Cricket wish all our players the best of luck throughout the winter, keep an eye out on our social media pages and website  for updates of how they’re all getting on.
