The two teams agreed to a 12 man line up for the fixture with the Durham team as follows: Smith, Coetzer, Raine, Harmison B, Breese (capt), Jennings, Coughlin, Onions, Pearce (wkt), Harrison, Harding, Killeen J.
Kyle Coetzer was the first man out with Durham’s total standing at 22 but by the 19th over the score had risen to 77 with Will Smith passing the fifty mark. Smith was dismissed on 61, with Ben Raine out in the same over for 21.
Gareth Breese hit a swift fifty from 53 balls and Durham were 191-3 by the 42nd over. Some big hitting from Ben Harmison, including four sixes in one over, saw him reach fifty and the total rise to 262 before he was out on 86.
Breese was run out on 79 leaving Durham 284-5. By the end of the 50th over Durham had posted 300-5 with Jennings ending the innings 26*.
In response Jamie Harrison made the first breakthrough in the fourth over leaving the University 15-1. Graham Onions struck the following over and the third wicket fell to Jonny Killeen as their total reached 55. The students steadied themselves enough to reach 126 before Paul Coughlin struck in the 26th over.
Onions returned for a second spell, taking a further two wickets in the 39th and 48th over. Durham went on to won by 57 runs with Onions the pick of the attack taking 3-25 from 10 overs.
