Durham County Cricket Foundation 2011 Activity Report

Despite the cricket finishing on the pitch there is plenty going on behind the scenes both at Emirates Durham and around the region as the DUrham Cricket Foundations activity is well underway for a third year.

The Foundation continues to work not just in Durham but Northumberland, Teeside and Cumbria delivering programmes focused on the Foundations five activity pillars; including Education, Grassroots Sport, Health, Club Development and Social Cohesion.

The largest area of change since year two is the new education programme the Foundation will be running in 2012, with all Foundation education programmes now running under the “Learning Beyond the Boundary” banner. This move has allowed the Foundation to work in many more areas, with many more young people delivering diverse education programmes.

In addition to the enhanced education activities Durham County Cricket Foundation will be launching several new initiatives in 2012. These new initiatives range from a new over 50s adult health awareness programme in “50 not out”, a new peer support programme, new arts initiatives and much more.

The Foundation is also delighted to be a vital part of the Question Tyne event that takes place at the Sports Direct Arena on 22nd February in conjunction with Newcastle United Foundation and the Newcastle Falcons Community Foundation, were three professionals from each club will face off in a Question of Sport Style evening.

Durham County Cricket Foundation can add so much to these programmes and make them unique experiences for all involved by using the resources Durham CCC has to offer with an international sporting facility, the opportunity to meet professional cricketers and the unique match-day experience.

In the Foundations second full year of activity the Foundation has had contact with over 6,000 people delivering nearly 2,000 hours activity. Over 125 schools and over 60 cricket clubs benefited from the Foundations invaluable work in the community.

The Foundation would also like to take the opportunity to thank main community partner The Esh Charitable Trust and community partners Tesco, Fly Emirates, Port of Tyne and Northumbrian Water who without their invaluable support we could not make the impact on all those people in the community.
