Durham Cricket ACO to host an online talk with Sue Redfern

Durham Cricket Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) will be hosting a special online talk with former England cricketer and now ECB and ICC umpire Sue Redfern.

Sue, who has a wealth of experience umpiring and playing, is one of the most successful female officials in the United Kingdom having umpired in the ICC Women’s World Cup last winter, stood in the Kia Super League, ECB 2XI team cricket and the newly formed Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Sue will be speaking at Durham ACO’s virtual branch meeting on Thursday 18 February at 7pm, which due to COVID-19 guidelines will be held via zoom.

This will a fantastic opportunity for current Durham umpires to hear from Sue on her experience umpiring and stories from her playing days – but will also give potential new female umpires an understanding of the opportunities there now is within the women’s game and the female pathway.

Durham Cricket ACO Chairman Harry Stephenson said: “As an ACO we are absolutely delighted to have Sue joining us for our February branch meeting, continuing our theme of providing our members with the chance to hear from top officials within the professional game.

“As an ACO we are looking to provide opportunities for women and girls within our region and this talk is perfect for them to hear what potential there is for officiating whether that be umpiring or scoring.

“Last summer it was proven with the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy that women and girls umpiring is being taken seriously and they can make a career out of it. Maybe there is another Sue out there in Durham who we are waiting to find.”
