Durham Cricket making Seat Unique Riverside more accessible and inclusive with ground upgrades.
Durham Cricket is aiming to become one of the most accessible cricket venues in the country as the Chester le Street ground makes a number of upgrades to its facilities.
A number of additions aimed at improving accessibility and inclusion include multifaith, sensory room, accessible spaces and upgraded disabled toilets within the venue are now in place.
With the T20 Blast season upon us and a number of families attending Seat Unique Riverside over the next month, the club are pleased to open an all-new Sensory Room.
Based in the media centre, this room will provide safe, relaxing space for individuals and families to enjoy an unrivalled view of the game. Due to the space available this is done by calling 0191 387 17 17 or by emailing box.office@durhamcricket.co.uk.
Around the corner from the media centre in block 5, a new changing places facility has been installed which includes disabled toilets.
The new accessible changing facility meets the needs of those with complex care needs and provides equipment, including a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, ceiling track hoist system and peninsular toilet.
A new multi-faith space room will launch with the aim of creating a quiet space for prayer and reflection and will be open to all supporters and followers of every religion on home matchdays.
Richard Dowson, Chief Operating Officer, said: “It is fantastic news that we can announce a number of upgrades to Seat Unique Riverside.
“Our aim is for Durham Cricket to become an inclusive venue all year round regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, social background, education or neural or physical ability and our ground upgrades are evidence of this.
“With funding and support from ECB these upgrades have been possible, and we now look forward to welcoming a wide range of people to Seat Unique Riverside this summer.”
