Durham ground staff recognised at ECB awards

Durham Cricket ground staff have been recognised at the ECB’s annual awards held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

The team, led by head groundsman Vic Demain, picked up a commendation for the quality of their three and four-day pitches in 2019.

Vic oversaw a busy summer of cricket at Emirates Riverside, with a busy ICC Cricket World Cup schedule alongside Durham’s home fixtures throughout 2019.

Vic said: “I was extremely proud of the work of the team last season, as we had four new members.

“In 2018 we had finished low in the league table, so to move up to third in 2019 was very pleasing.”

Yorkshire groundsman, Andy Fogarty picked up the award for the best groundsman of the year, while outgoing Somerset Groundsman Simon Lee and Glamorgan Head Groundsman, Robin Saxton shared the award for the best one-day groundsman.
