Durham ground staff recognised at ECB awards

Durham Cricket ground staff have been recognised at the ECB’s annual ground staff awards held at Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

The team, led by head groundsman Vic Demain, picked up a commendation for one-day pitches in the 2021 season.

The commendation saw Durham Cricket recognised for the quality of one-day pitches in the Vitality Blast and Royal London Cup.

Vic was in attendance at the Upton Steel County Ground on Thursday alongside deputy head groundsman Mark Patterson and ground staff Ben Hall, Tom Wilson and Christian Henderson.

Vic said: “It’s very rewarding for myself and the team to pick up these commendations for our work at The Riverside.

“It is well known that this isn’t the easiest ground to gain awards at, also there are many people who want to knock the standard of cricket pitches across the country, so any recognition is appreciated.

“Given the remedial work that was carried out on the square at the end of the 2020 season, it is very positive that the one day pitches were so good.

“One of the aims of Durham Cricket is to win trophies on the field and having quality pitches to play on can only assist in achieving that goal.”
